Lesson Plan Overview for Excel

Overview

This series of lessons will give the student basic expertise with Microsoft Excel. There are a total of fourteen lessons. When finished, students will be able to use Excel to: calculate basic functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, use formulas, make graphs, sort data, correctly use time and date, do minimum and maximum numbers and do "if . . .then" statements.

Day 1 Technology Standards Covered In This Unit:

Teacher Student
Use the whiteboard to draw a spreadsheet. Label the rows and columns. Explain the following terms: Students will participate in the discussion
Cell, cell reference, row, column, formula, graph, + - * and /, formula bar Teacher will call on students to ascertain understanding
Explain how to make  a formula

Day 2 and 3: Spreadsheet Assignment 3 and 4  
Explain to students how to access SSAssg3 on the website Students will complete the graphing assignment and show it to the teacher for a grade.
Review with students how to format text in a spreadsheet  
Review with students how to adjust the width of cells  
   
Assist students as needed  
Grade Assignments  
   
Day 4 : Spreadsheet Assignment  5  
Explain how to access SSAsg5 and use the PowerPoint. Students will complete SSAssg 5
Have students to SSAssg5 and show to me for a grade As each assignment is finished, show the teacher for a grade.
   
   
Day 6: Formula Introduction  
Pass out the required paper for SSAssg6 Students will use the PowerPoint on the website to complete the assignment, filling in the missing blanks on the paper as they go.
Review how to use the website for this assignment Show the teacher when finished for a grade.
   
   
   
   
 SSAssg7 - The Budget  
As students finish SSAssg7 satisfactorily, they will go directly to SSAssg7, The Budget. Students will complete SSASsg7, The Budget, and show the teacher the completed assignment when finished.
Teacher will assist as needed  
Students will show the teacher their completed assignment when finished  
   
SSAssg8: Minimum and Maximum As students complete SSAssg7, they will move to SSAssg8, Min and Max
As students finish SSAssg7 satisfactorily, they will go directly to SSAssg8, Min and Max

Students will show the teacher their completed assignment when finished.

When finished, they will show the teacher for a grade.
   
SSAsg17 Final Graphing Review  
SSAsg18 Calculating Payments using the PMT function  
SSAsg19 Last of the "must do" assignments. A review of all formulas.  
SSAsg20-23 are all enrichment and require various degress of analysis and synthesis to complete independently.
